Kontron is launching its first lightweight, plastic-housed medical panel PC specially designed for medical equipment OEMs. The MediClient offers medical OEMs a highly reliable platform with flexible mounting options and the longevity required by the medical industry. Kontron's scalable x86 CPU boards and a range of I/O are assembled into a complete medical human-machine interface (HMI) with a light and easy-to-clean plastic housing made in accordance with the OEM's individual corporate design.
The easy-to-use 15inch touch-screen offers sharp graphics on a high-contrast 1024x768 TFT display. It is usable with gloves and stylus pens and is resistant to disinfectants and detergents. The front panel of the Kontron MediClient offers IP65 protection against dust and liquids and allows cleaning of fluid-born contaminants with alcohol. The extremely tough, light and cost-effective plastic housing (ABS UL94V0) is scratch-proof, corrosion resistant and chemical resistant for long life and easy cleaning. Mounting options include traditional panel mounting as well as VESA arm mounting.
In addition to its mounting options, the Kontron MediClient offers flexible and scalable processor performance up to the 600MHz Intel Celeron M processor. The dual Ethernet (10/100), dual USB2.0 and serial RS232 (optional RS422/RS485) interfaces add to the MediClient's versatility, making it suitable for a wide range of medical applications: as a user terminal for X-Ray and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) machines, or as a patient monitoring system, to name just a few.
With its low power consumption and low heat dissipation, this new panel PC is also suitable for mobile, battery-driven, all-in-one point-of-care applications, such as mobile nursing stations and bedside terminals in hospitals or health centres. Other applications include everyday maintenance of patients' electronic records in doctors' offices, operating rooms or laboratories.
Shock and vibration resistance, thermal stability and compatibility with EN 60601-01 are standard features of the Kontron MediClient Panel PCs, as well as long-term availability of at least five years. The elimination of fans not only reduces noise but also ensures very high reliability. Windows CE.net, Windows XP Embedded and Embedded Linux are available as standard operating systems, along with numerous protocols, including http, XML and RDP (Remote Desktop Protocol).
