PROFIBUS, PROFINET & Murrelektronik host PROFIsafe User Workshop

Some highlights of the workshop alongside the presentations were the interoperability live demo that displayed the functionality of PROFIsafe, discussions on safety versus security and information about implementing machine guidelines.

The workshop also featured a micro trade show which allowed manufacturers to engage with machine builders in a new setting. Xaver Schmid, Profinet Workgroup Leader, says: "The community is in focus today - first of all with the manufacturers displaying a large selection of devices and secondly, with many new innovations in the safety technology area. Both of these trends emphasise that we are the leading safety standard."

Murrelektronik's own Vice President of Automation and PI Board Member, Joerg Krautter, opened the event with a warm welcome and hinted toward the exciting future of PROFIsafe saying: "The theme of this event is interoperability - not only with the different manufacturers but also with the collaboration between customers and suppliers."

According to PI, over 4 million bus nodes use PROFIsafe and the tremendous growth of the past years confirms PROFIsafe as a leading safety field bus communication system that enables many new functions in fieldbus modules. Alongside reducing wiring, it enables a much higher flexibility and availability within systems. Life cycles can be extended when safety is correctly considered and implemented.
