HBM is launching the PW27 platform load cell, claiming that it is the only such product on the market to meet the EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) guidelines for applications in the food sector.
Hygiene is increasingly important in the food industry because of heightened consumer awareness and demand for the freshest possible foodstuffs without preservatives. One critical aspect is the ability to easily clean plants and all components used. To meet these demands the PW27 platform load cell features a cylindrical design and is manufactured in stainless steel without any corners or edges. The measuring element and strain gauges are hermetically sealed inside the housing, resulting in a robust component that resists attacks from all cleaning and disinfection agents currently used in the food industry.
The PW27 platform load cell also meets the standards for both IP68 and IP69K degrees of protection. It is initially available with a maximum capacity of 20kg and is fitted with an integrated overload stop to prevent damage from excessive loads. A 10kg load cell will be available in the near future.
Typical applications for this device include filling and packaging machines, static scales or multi-head combination weighers (MHC).

The EHEDG (European Hygienic Engineering & Design Group) is an association of manufacturers, food producers and research institutes that works to produce specific guidelines for ensuring that optimum hygienic conditions are maintained during food production.
