Robust absolute linear encoder offers sub-micron resolution
Sick is launching the TTK70 absolute linear encoder that is designed for positioning applications on robotics and machine tools, or for use as a positional feedback system for linear motors. This innovative, compact, high-performance magnetic encoder is said to provide a reliable alternative to fragile optical scales, with sub-micron resolution and an accuracy of +/-10microns.
Featuring a small yet robust read head that is barely bigger than a match box, the TTK70 encoder is not only compact but also easy to install, and is therefore suitable for applications with limited space.
The TTK70 encoder is also versatile, with a wide range of interface options including SSI/SinCos, Profibus, DeviceNet and CANopen, enabling simple integration within PLC-based control systems. The TTK70 is also available with Hiperface interface, enabling it to deliver highly dynamic linear motor feedback.
With a high resistance to dust, dirt and wet environments, due to magnetic operating principles and an IP65 rating, the TTK70 is reliable even in harsh operating conditions.
Sick says the encoder is suitable for use in robotic handling systems, metal forming machinery, cutting and processing in PCB print and assembly operations, as well as in flatbed printers and medical scanning equipment.
The TTK70 operates at up to 10m/s and it is able to measure up to 4m in length using its absolute coded magnetic tape that measures 10mm in width.
Darren Pratt, the encoder specialist at Sick (UK), comments: "The TTK70 is a unique offering. It combines the highest level of accuracy that you would expect from a magnetic linear encoder, with the largest choice of interfaces, in a compact, easy-to-install package at a competitive price point."
