Rugged digital data recorder and signal conditioner

GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, a unit of GE Enterprise Solutions, is announcing the DDR-300 digital data recorder and the DSC-300 signal conditioner. Both are specifically designed for use in harsh environments that are subject to extremes of heat, vibration and shock (the DDR-300 meets the MIL-STD-810F standard), conditions which prohibit the use of conventional rack-mount units. The DDR-300 and DSC-300 are rugged, compact and lightweight, allowing them to be field-deployed in space-constrained and weight-constrained environments such as aircraft and military vehicles, and in dangerous testing environments that require the units to be nearby.

For applications in which data from numerous sensors must be processed, a primary requirement is to condition the incoming signal - amplifying it, for example - before it can be processed. In many applications, the requirement also exists to capture multiple parallel streams of incoming data at very high speeds for subsequent analysis. Such applications include test environments with NVH (noise, vibration and harshness), and munitions testing, and the DDR-300 and DSC-300 are suitable for use in these environments.

Arun Sheth, global product manager for test and measurement at GE Fanuc Intelligent Platforms, says: "Rapid advances in technology are enabling increasing numbers of sensors to be deployed in a wide range of applications and environments. That creates a requirement to be able to capture, process and interpret vast amounts of sensor-derived data - and to do so in places that are often remote and inhospitable. The DDR-300 and DSC-300 provide a uniquely high-performance, cost-effective response to those requirements."

DDR-300 digital data recorder

A complete, self-contained, ready-to-run field-deployable unit, the rugged DDR-300 32-channel or 64-channel digital data recorder includes an integral 15inch XGA TFT display, USB keyboard and mouse, integrated stereo speakers and support for up to 2.5 Terabytes of high-speed (up to 100 Mbytes/s) 7200rpm SATA disk storage, which may optionally be implemented in a RAID configuration. It features a 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo processor and 2Gbytes of system memory. Housed in a magnesium chassis enclosed within a fibre-reinforced polycarbonate housing, the DDR-300 offers expansion slots for two full-size and two half-length PCI cards and a combination AC/DC power supply. Optionally available are a UPS battery, removable hard disk storage and rack-mounting. It weighs less than 25lbs.

DSC-300 signal conditioning modules

Capable of handling either analogue or digital signals and either differential or single-ended inputs, the rugged DSC-300 eight-channel signal conditioning module weighs less than 5lbs. Gain is selectable up to x1000 per channel, with a bandwidth of 200kHz at gains of up to x100. It features a built-in buffered output monitor, together with a reference input for calibration, and supports voltage, bridge and ICP (Integrated Circuit Piezoelectric) inputs.

Both units are available now. For more information go to www.fanuc.eu.
