National Instruments says it is transforming the way engineers and scientists design, prototype and deploy systems for measurement, control and automation applications. The NI approach of integrating intuitive graphical programming and off-the-shelf modular hardware is claimed to have revolutionised the way engineers automate product testing, build high-performance machines and optimise existing manufacturing systems.
Visitors to Southern Manufacturing 2009 can experience NI product innovations in programmable automation controllers (PACs), PC-based industrial data acquisition and distributed I/O. The NI PAC platform combines the ruggedness of a PLC with the software-defined flexibility of a PC. Combining an embedded CPU running a deterministic real-time OS, a custom-defined onboard FPGA and a tool, LabVIEW, NI's Reconfigurable I/O (RIO) architecture enables engineers to choose a platform suited to their needs.
