Sensor company opens test facility and video conferencing centre

Micro-Epsilon, which moved premises in August 2008, has opened a test facility and video conferencing technical support centre at its new offices in Ellesmere Port, Cheshire. Customers will now be able to test and prove a sensor system before they purchase and have any technical or application queries resolved rapidly via the new video conferencing service.

Chris Jones, Managing Director of Micro-Epsilon (UK), comments: "Customers require more detailed answers to their test and measurement requirements and as such require a 'local expert' to answer their questions quickly. In the UK sensor market, many sales engineers are not engineering-qualified and so are unable to answer technical queries from the customer. They therefore have to refer these technical questions to head office engineers, who may be located in the US, Asia or continental Europe. It can therefore take time for the appropriate engineer to answer the customer's questions and quite often this engineer may misinterpret what the customer requires and so the process has to go through several iterations to finally provide the correct information.

"Sales engineers at Micro-Epsilon are qualified engineers and so their technical support is very fast. However, it is not possible to know all the detailed knowledge of our complete product range. Especially, for example, when customers require a modified sensor or custom OEM sensor designs for their application. Micro-Epsilon UK can now offer its new test and video conferencing facility in the UK, so that discussions can take place directly between the customer and our own design engineers quickly, with the correct information being provided first time. This can then be simulated in our own test facility before the product is installed at the customer's site."

Solve problems fast

Micro-Epsilon is inviting clients and potential customers to the new video conferencing suite to consult directly with design engineers and R&D staff at Micro-Epsilon sites worldwide. Technical issues, application problems and custom OEM sensor designs can be discussed very efficiently.

Jones adds: "The video conferencing enables us to create a kind of two-way information flow. Both parties can view technical drawings and measurement results simultaneously, as well as technical data and information about the customer's application. This greatly enhances and speeds up our existing technical support service and has already been used effectively by some of our customers."
