Servos motors are drop-in replacements for pancake motors
A new range of MCBL brushless servo motors, sold in the UK through Motor Technology, are simple drop-in replacements for certain models of disc armature motors, also known as pancake motors, that are no longer available. In particular, the MCBL motors replace obsolete permanent magnet disk armature motors from the likes of Servalco, ABB and BBC; the new models are also compatible with the Parvex/Axem range that are still manufactured.
Motor Technology says the new MCBL motors are robust, maintenance-free, permanent magnet synchronous motors designed with a very short housing. They have flange and shaft dimensions compatible with the old pancake motors so that no mechanical modifications are necessary during replacement; simply remove the old pancake, choose the correct MCBL motor and it will fit as if it were a like-for-like replacement.
Rated to IP65, the new motors achieve a very high power density and deliver excellent dynamic performance with high maximum speed. They are designed with rare earth magnets for a wide operating temperature range and have sinusoidal commutation, integrated thermal protection with PTC, rotatable angled connectors and eight-pole construction. With their high-voltage windings, they are suitable for use with direct-on-line, digital servo drives.
Launched at the SPS exhibition in Nuremberg, Germany, in November 2013, the new MCBL motors can be used for a wide range of applications such as printing, packaging, materials handling and converting.
