Siemens Automation and Drives (A&D) is adding digital input/output modules and a fail-safe relay module to its distributed Simatic ET 200S peripheral device. The latter can therefore be installed much more compactly than before, which is especially advantageous in conveying applications, machine tools and production machines, as well as in the automotive industry - including where robot technology is employed - and in the paper industry.
With the new 8DI DC 24 V (eight-channel digital input) modules and the 8DO DC 24 V/0.5 A (eight-channel digital output) modules, the Simatic ET 200S can be installed in even smaller spaces than before. Typical applications are those where a large number of channels are needed and there is little space for installation - such as conveying applications, machine tools and production machines. The robust modules are suitable for ambient temperatures from 0-60degC and the modules are highly resistant to vibrations up to 5 'g'. The electronic modules can be universally wired in advance with screw-type, springloaded or fast-connect terminals and can even be 'hot-swapped' without disconnecting the voltage supply. The 8DI modules are suitable for connecting two-wire sensors.
The new fail-safe relay module for the Simatic ET 200S features a relay output for a switching capacity of 5A at 24V DC and AC voltages up to 230V. The relay module can be triggered via any fail-safe outputs and the internal fail-safe inputs can be used to read back the control information. The module is certified for safety-related applications up to SIL 3 in accordance with IEC 61508 and IEC 62061 and is also in line with Category 4 of EN 594-1.
