Revolvo is launching the SNQ (SN-Quick) bearing, which it claims can reduce the fitting time compared with standard bearings by up to 90 per cent when installing bearings in constricted spaces. The SNQ delivers these savings with an innovative 45 degree split design that overcomes the problems of lifting shafts or jacking gearboxes to accommodate the bearings.
The SN Quick is a development of Revolvo's standard SN series of split plummer blocks, which offer users the advantage of providing full dimensional interchangeability with conventional solid plummer blocks, thus removing the requirement for major structural changes to machinery.
Cast iron plummer blocks equipped with spherical roller bearings are among the most common types in use across all industry sectors. They are used to support rotating shafts in everything from conveyors and fans, to line shafts. Yet despite their widespread usage, replacement is often time-consuming and difficult, due to the removal of adjacent equipment. In fact, replacing a typical trapped bearing mounted in a cast iron plummer block can take anything from several hours to several days. In contrast, replacement of SNQ bearing units can take as little as an hour.
In addition to their primary role of reducing downtime, Revolvo's SNQ split roller bearings offer users performance advantages not found on solid bearings. First, they are designed to be statically self-aligning. This means that there is no need to accurately realign the bearing housing to the shaft or any other in-line equipment that may be involved in the installation. Second, SNQ bearings offer users much improved reliability, due to their ability to accommodate thermal expansion of the shaft within the bearing envelope.
Third, SNQ bearings perform reliably in high temperature environments, up to 140degC without problems for standard catalogue items. They are also suitable for use in aggressive environments, due to the performance of the sealing systems available.
Fourth and final, Revolvo's SNQ bearings satisfy the demands of specific industries where there is a requirement to inspect bearings at regular intervals, as part of a planned maintenance campaign.
