For those who want more than an entry level thermal imaging camera but not the sophisticated features that characterise its professional models, FLIR Systems offers the Exx-Series. These are advanced cameras that are thermally tuneable and manually focusable and whose value for money is assured by exceptional imaging quality and standard features such as continuous zoom, thermal fusion, text/voice annotation, WiFi and Meterlink.
The latest generation FLIR Exx-Series comprises three models, E40/50/60, with the top of the range providing a resolution of 320 × 240 pixels. All three, however, are now supplied complete with FLIR Systems' patented MSX technology. This is a visual augmentation feature that extracts detail from the 3.1 MP visual image, putting the thermal image sharply into context. The enhanced image makes inspection easy and even allows details such as a fuse number to be seen clearly.
FLIR Systems' intuitive keypad, touch screen and menu are also new. This system allows the thermal, visual, MSX and picture-in-picture images to be saved with one click. All thermal data is automatically embedded and the image can also be edited in the camera.
Another new and useful feature is auto-orientation. This allows the camera operator to take either a landscape or portrait image, whichever is best suited to the application. The software also tags the image's orientation and presents it in that format when recalled.
A wide range of accessories is also now available with the new Exx-Series including 45 degree and telephoto lenses to extend the camera's scope of application and useful devices such as sun visor for efficient outdoor operation.
In common with all FLIR Systems' cameras, the E40, E50 and E60 carry warranties of 2 and 10 years for the camera and the detector, respectively. The length of guarantee is claimed to be unique in this market and indicative of the confidence FLIR Systems has in its products' design and build quality.
As before, the FLIR Exx-Series is supplied with FLIR Tools operating and basic reporting software for PC and Apple MAC, but for greater flexibility FLIR Tools+ is also available. It supports a wide range of reporting and analysis features including Panorama, FLIR Systems' intelligent imaging stitching function.
