Thermal imaging camera with multi spectral dynamic imaging

Flir Systems describes its FLIR T640 as a high-performing thermal imaging camera for the professional, and the latest generation has a number of new features to enable thermal inspection and analysis to be conducted with efficiency and speed. It has excellent tried-and-tested ergonomics, and even better image quality thanks to the incorporation of FLIR's new Multi Spectral Dynamic Imaging (MSX).

As an example of the system's capabilities, MSX provides clear, thermal detail of a fuse box on the infrared image, and any writing on the box is visible as well. This clever, patent-pending technology takes detail from the visual image to improve the thermal image, a form of superfusion.

This feature is complemented by user-selectable continuous autofocus which is claimed to be unique to FLIR. For this purpose, the new FLIR T600 is equipped with dual 5 megapixel visual cameras to estimate distance. The facility can be applied to steadily moving targets, if required, and through all interchangeable lenses with the exception of the macro.

For ease of reporting, the new FLIR T600 incorporates another first, matching field of view. For the first time users can additionally add unlimited sketch annotations to the image via the camera's touch screen. The final new addition is a compass that complements built-in GPS.

Although the FLIR T640, with 640 × 480 pixel resolution and 35mK sensitivity, has many new attributes it also carries forward many proven features that have contributed to the popularity of the FLIR T-Series. These include the tiltable optical unit which makes it possible to take thermal measurements and images of targets at any angle whilst the camera is held in a comfortable working position.

Other proven features include WiFi interface that allows the FLIR T640 to send images wirelessly to a PC, tablet device or Smartphone and enables remote control of the camera. This model also includes MeterLink, so that measurements taken on a similarly equipped clamp meter can be embedded in the appropriate thermal image.

Within the standard FLIR T640 package is FLIR's Instant Report and FLIR Tools software that provide all the requirements for basic reporting and analysis of findings. Users needing more sophisticated functions can choose FLIR Reporter software.
