Universal Robots announces additional UK distributor

Kristian Hulgard, UK and Nordic sales manager, says: "We are seeing signs in the UK of increased interest in investing in new technology as the manufacturing sector slowly eases out of recession, so we have now put in place a comprehensive distributor network to enable us to cope with increased demand and capitalize on market opportunities."

Nigel Richardson, Joint MD of Geku Automation, says: "A collaborative robot that doesn't require any special training to program and can be managed by existing technical staff and workers rather than expensive consultants is going to be a winner. When you add that to the great flexibility of the robot and the fact that in many instances no safety shielding is required, it's a convincing package for small to medium-sized enterprises looking to add robots for the first time or just looking for a more flexible and cost effective solution The addition of the Universal Robot range to our portfolio will open up new sectors and applications areas where more traditional industrial Robots would or could not be considered."

The Universal Robots product portfolio includes the UR5 and UR10 models that handle payloads of up to 5 and 10kg, respectively. The six-axis robot arms are in compliance with the ISO standard for collaborative robots; as soon as an employee comes into contact with the robot arm, the robot arm will automatically stop operating. This means that subject to a risk assessment, the robots have proved safe to operate without safety shielding in 80 per cent of currently installed applications. The collaborative robots can quickly be moved around the production sites and are easily integrated in all industries - from the small machine shop to the large auto assembly line. Return on investment is typically 3-8 months.

Geku have over 30 years' experience in providing Robotic & Automation Solutions and offer a complete design and build capability, ranging from simple end of arm tooling, right up to complex turnkey solutions. All their systems are fully proven and tested at the Rochester Factory before delivery, and are followed up with training and service support packages to suit specific customer needs.
