Updated Practical Guide to Machinery Safety
Laidler Associates and Safety Systems Technology have published an updated version of A practical guide to machinery Safety . Copies are available on request from www.laidler.co.uk/downloads.html as PDF files or hard copies. [Note that a newly updated (4th edition) of the Practical Guide to Machinery Safety is now available - Ed, 26 September 2011.]
As with the previous edition, the guide covers legislation including the EMC and Low Voltage Directives (LVD), plus the new edition includes up-to-date information about the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
Other sections in the guide covers topics such as: risk assessment and hazard analysis; CE marking; and the Provision and Use of Work Equipment Regulations (PUWER).
Paul Laidler, founder and managing director of Laidler Associates, comments: "The guide is written to benefit both machine builders and end users. Both sides need a good understanding of the legislation and processes surrounding machinery safety and this guide will help bridge the gap in understanding between the two."
For machine buyers, the guide includes a helpful section on pre-purchase audits. Elsewhere there are an introduction to the different types of electrical safety products that are available, and forms, charts and checklists for use when performing a machinery safety inspection. An EN 954-1 chart is shown alongside an EN ISO 13849-1 equivalent, plus there is an EN ISO 14121-1 checklist and further checklists for CE marking and PUWER compliance.
