Upgraded Sinamics inverter range now available with Profinet

With efficiency and performance key drivers for manufacturers, Siemens Drive Technologies has upgraded its Sinamics G120C compact inverter series. The range is now available with Profinet, offering plants a further option for communication, setting a new standard in its class in terms of design, commissioning time and functionality.

Profinet complements the Profibus, USS/Modbus RTU and CAN options already available to enable faster exchange of data for high-performance motion control applications. Profinet and standard Ethernet communication can now be used in parallel.

Designed for use in industrial environments, the company says that the inverter offers the highest power densities in its class, and its compact design reduces system footprint. Compared with conventional systems, the converter requires up to 30 per cent less installation space and provides up to 40 per cent higher power density.

The Sinamics G120C inverter series has been designed to reduce engineering time, with plug-in terminals to ensure faster installation and a memory card slot to enable quicker series commissioning.

As safety is a key consideration, each G120C comes complete with Safety Integrated from Siemens to ensure safety for people, machines and plant. The safety technology ensures safe drive shutdown and factory-fitted dual safety input enables safe torque off (STO function) without the need for connecting external devices.

Andy Hodgson, business sales manager, Siemens Drive Technologies, comments: "The addition of Profinet to the Sinamics G120C compact inverter series from Siemens is a key upgrade to one of our most successful ranges. It now means plants have the option to run communications through an additional platform - and one that can be used in parallel with Ethernet. Importantly, the device offers ease of engineering, reduced system footprint and cost-effective control for energy-optimised operation of induction motors to increase operational efficiency."
