VS Series spherical roller bearings last twice as long
NSK is launching VS Series long-life spherical roller bearings for vibrating machinery used in mining, quarrying and construction industries. The new VS Series SRB products offer a service life more than twice as long as current designs, enabling vibrating machinery to operate for longer, continuous periods, while maintaining high levels of reliability.
The new bearings have been developed to meet the needs of markets where many mining and quarrying facilities are operated under extremely demanding conditions, 24 hours a day, 6000 hours per year. Under these conditions any interruptions to the operation of vibration-intensive machinery can negatively affect production. Consequently, longer service life and higher reliability are key features for bearings used in this type of machinery.
NSK's new long-life spherical roller bearings, developed using sophisticated analysis techniques, the latest advances in production technology and a programme of stringent evaluation tests, are designed specifically for use in vibration-intensive machinery. They provide product enhancements that are claimed to meet all market demands for improved service life and reliability.
Improved surface finish
The longer service life of the VS series SRB is the result of a special surface finish on the raceway of the outer ring, which is used to control the slippage action of the rollers. The curvature factor between the raceway and spherical roller has also been optimised. This reduces both slippage and the accompanying initiation stress between the roller and the contact surfaces of the outer and inner raceways. The result of these design initiatives is a reduction in raceway damage over the life of the bearings due to surface fatigue, giving a service life more than twice that of current bearing types.
With its VS SRB design NSK has also succeeded in stabilising load distribution by controlling radial internal clearance and bearing dimensional tolerance factors. The internal radial clearance of the VS series is set at two-thirds that of ISO standard bearings, while the bearing outer diameter and bore diameter tolerances are half that of ISO standard bearings.
NSK is offering the new VS Series SRB bearings in 22 sizes, with outer diameters ranging from 90mm to 400mm.
