Webinar programme of DAQ updates continues through to June

The theme of the 20th May webinar will be to teach participants tips and tricks in installing a torque sensor. HBM's Mark Minda, who has over 20 years of experience in the repair, calibration and day-to-day use of torque sensors, will deliver the webinar. The webinar will cover every aspect of installing a torque sensor including discussions on how to mount both the rotor and stator. There will also be a focused look at recommended coupling methods along with how to properly align and balance a torque sensor and correctly use the supplied calibration data sheet.

Correct measurement of torque is increasingly important as engineers seek to increase mechanical output, improve efficiency, conserve energy and reduce environmental pollution. Torque is important in a wide range of applications including on test stands and in production monitoring where measuring equipment is integrated directly into the production process. Typical applications include determining viscosity by means of torque or monitoring screwing operations by measuring the torque and the angle of rotation.

Torque is also important in performing calibrations that need to comply with particularly stringent demands regarding measurement accuracy and stability. HBM offers a comprehensive range of torque sensors and transducers for all applications.

This webinar is followed on 5th June by a webinar that looks at the efficiency testing on electrical drive trains. The aim of the webinar is to highlight key information regarding the testing of electric machines and inverters in the electric drive train. The focus of attention is on optimizing the efficiency measurement through live power calculation as well as continuous and synchronised acquisition of the electrical and mechanical power.

A basic challenge facing the continued development of electric vehicles is that traditional testing methods and equipment have reached their limitations for assessing - and hence facilitating the improvement of - efficiency. The webinar examines alternative testing methods and equipment that are readily available to significantly improve efficiency. HBM On Tour 2014

On the 11th and 12th June, shortly after this webinar, HBM On Tour 2014 - a series of technical seminars and workshops - will take place at the Williams Conference Centre in Oxfordshire. Delegates will be able to choose either a workshop on "The Installation of Strain Gauges and an Overview Of Optical Strain Gauges" or a workshop on "Professional Measurement Software Made Easy" on the first day. By contrast the choices on the 12th June are either a workshop on the "Practical Use of Modern Day Data Acquisition Systems" or a seminar on "Efficiency Testing on Electric Drive Trains".

HBM On Tour 2014 represents a wonderful opportunity for engineers to deepen their knowledge of new measurement technologies and quickly learn how to use modern systems effectively and safely. HBM will also host an event, "Shopping at the Supermarket", on Thursday, 26th June, at the Williams Conference Centre that looks at the need for highly accurate and dependable weighing technology throughout the food industry. This event covers the use of effective weighing systems utilised at every stage of food production - from determining the amount of grain in silos through to ensuring the exact quantity of wine in a bottle.

This event will focus on a number of different applications using HBM products along with discussions on selecting and implementing the most suitable weighing technology. The main presentations will look at the key principles of weighing technology and, in addition, HBM will have a number of different products available.
