White paper exposes false economy thinking of UK businesses

Atlas Copco Compressors has published a new white paper authored by Sean Fairest, Business Line Manager - Compressor Technique Service Division, which examines compressor maintenance and the role established vendors can play, as opposed to independent local providers.

White paper exposes false economy thinking of UK businesses

The white paper "Do alternative service providers create or destroy value for the compressed air user?' discusses how the desire to keep maintenance costs down can actually damage the longevity and overall cost of running a compressed air system. The paper deconstructs the argument that whilst the use of independent service providers can be initially cheaper they can in fact be more expensive over the lifetime of the machine.

It is argued that these independent local providers are often ill-equipped to provide efficient service and maintenance in line with current recommendations from the manufacturer. For example, Atlas Copco encourages users of their Z Range of compressors to consider a major overall after approximatley 60,000 hours of usage. By contrast, independent local providers are often asking customers to consider this expenditure after only 40,000 hours of usage.

According to Fairest: ""compressed air users need to challenge the quick win [mentality] and consider carefully if their decision is creating, or destroying, value in the medium to long term for their company." This paper lays out the arguments for both approaches in a clear, easy to absorb format.
