LinearChain

LinearChain Push-Pull Actuation Devices

LinearChains are an important linear motion component in linear drive technology as they facilitate the movement of a load in a linear fashion, both vertically and horizontally.

As sole distributor of Grob LinearChain within the UK and Ireland, R.A. Rodriguez (UK) Limited offers a solution that works like a conventional linear actuator but is made of specially formed links, whose geometry prevents the chain from buckling under heavy loads.

Grob LinearChain is also very space-efficient, requiring very little storage space/ capacity.  This is due to both the design of the drive housing and to the special profile of the chain links with its interlocking fingers which enable the chain to be rolled up efficiently into a small storage area, unlike traditional linear drives where significant installation space is needed for the spindle stroke.

Available in three basic sizes with stroke lengths in excess of 5 meters, the LinearChain has a maximum push force of up to 35,000 N.

Compact drive units for the chain and storage magazines are also readily available for all chain sizes.

TowerChain TC60 Push-Pull Actuation Device

The Grob TowerChain creates high contact area between the chain links enabling a load capacity of 60kN and 4000mm unguided stroke. This chain design makes it possible to achieve high force density in a small space.

Benefits of the LinearChain

  • Very little space is required to operate, as the chain links can be stored in the tightest of spaces
  • Can be installed horizontally, vertically or on an incline
  • High reliability
  • Long service life
  • Maximum lifting load of 35000 N per linear chain
  • Chain length can be extended to any length
  • Implementation of practically ‘endless’ strokes
  • Full Stainless option available
  • Suitable for special environments such as cleanrooms or high-temperature zones
  • Standard stroke speed up to 250 mm/s; in special cases speeds of up to 1,000 mm/sec are even possible

Frequently Asked Questions About LinearChains

What is a LinearChain?

A LinearChain is a specially made mechanical chain which when interlocked uses push and pull strategies to move heavy loads. The combination of the push and pull forces creating the rigid locking design is what differentiates a LinearChain from other linear drive technologies.

How does a LinearChain work?

The drive housing of a LinearChain contains a gear wheel. When this drive house is engaged with the chain it encourages the linear chain to move both forwards and backwards to create a force of push and pull. The chain actuator is made up of two loose ends, one is attached to the load and the other is guided freely, typically rolled up in a storage device to save space.

How does the LinearChain push?

The chain can be operated by an electric motor or a hand winch to create a pushing force. This allows the shoulder of each chain to lock together and also push against each other to create a rigid unit. In turn, this creates a lifting solution or pushing force on the heavy object attached.

How does the LinearChain pull?

The LinearChain is similar to a normal chain in the sense that it can still be wound up in one direction and stored in a magazine, to save space. Pairing this mechanism with a drive element will result in a chain pull on the load, causing the attached load to be pulled.

What can LinearChains be used for?

  • The stage platform in a theatre or concert hall
  • Refrigeration units
  • Bespoke car parking solutions systems
  • Material feeding in production plants
  • Materials handling
  • Window actuators
  • Scissor lifts
  • Telescopic lifts
  • And much more….
