ISA-SP103 Field Device Tool Interface committee forms

On 25 June 2007 the inaugural meeting for ISA-SP103 committee Field Device Tool Interface Specification took place during ISA's Summer Leaders meeting in Scottsdale, Arizona, USA. The ISA-SP103 committee was accepted by the Standards & Practices Board in January 2006 with the brief to develop a standard to fully integrate fieldbuses, devices and subsystems as seamless parts of the automation life-cycle.

While the IEC International Electrotechnical Commission) is working towards an international standard in its SC65E WG4 committee, the ISA-SP103 committee will contribute and assist the responsible US TAG (US Technical Advisory Group) hosted by ISA, as well ISA-SPTAG65E committee, System Engineering & Management. It is planned to form the core for the TAG and to assist the TAG to select experts from the USA.

During the first meeting, which was convened by Klaus-Peter Lindner as interim chair, the candidate for the position of chairman, Mr Ahmad Zahedi of Flowserve, was introduced. Topics discussed and agreed included membership and status, review of scope and purpose, as well as next steps and next meeting. The next face-to-face meeting is scheduled to take place during the ISA Expo 2007 in Houston, Texas, USA, on Tuesday 2 October 2007 from 13:00 - 17:30 in the Reliant Center.

Klaus-Peter Lindner, a member of the ISA Standards & Practices Board, comments: "We are very proud to have Saudi Aramco as one very prominent and international user supporting ISA-SP103 as a voting member."

The commenting phase for IEC 62453 Field Device Tool - second Committee Draft (CD) ends on 7 September 2007. The FDT Group will provide technical and organisational support to ISA-SP103 to help increase acceptance of FDT technology in the USA.
