270-degree safety laser scanner can monitor two zones

Area protection ensures the safety of machine operators in a hazardous area, or those approaching the machine. This protection can be provided by safety mats, perimeter guarding, light curtains or by implementing a laser scanner.

With applications such as access protection, the SE2L laser scanner provides other features including Dual Area Protection - where one scanner can monitor two separate hazardous areas and stop the related machine without the need for a reflective sensor, thus eliminating optical alignment issues and could replace two light curtains.

As for AGV (automated guided vehicle) applications, this is where the IDEC laser scanner comes in to its own. The SE2L has a built-in encoder input, which enables the scanner to switch between sensing patterns (32 area patterns can be configured), so it can adjust the AGV's speed when its detects an obstacle.

The device is configured using easy-to-use software for defining up to 32 area patterns, detecting positional changes, teaching function and checking detection status (area data and distance measurement data can be recorded while monitoring on a PC).
