All-in-one controllers used for packaging and labelling machines
Kolman has used Unitronics Vision570 and Vision560 all-in-one PLC, HMI and I/O devices in its latest generation of packaging and labelling machinery.
Kolman d.o.o. of Croatia manufactures high-quality, professional packaging machines, labelling machines and additional processing equipment. Specialising in small, highly productive machines for the packaging of all kinds of materials depending on customer preference and type of goods, Kolman was in need of a complete control system for all of its machinery.
The system needed to be as simple as possible, with an integrated HMI for operator ease of use. Other main requirements were for temperature control without using independent temperature controllers, servo drive control directly from the PLC, plus basic automated control of pneumatic equipment.
A Unitronics Vision570, Vision560, and V200-18-E4XB snap-in I/O were chosen to fulfil Kolman's requirements. The Vision570 unit was chosen because of the 5.7inch colour touch screen, fulfilling the user-friendly operator interface requirement. The V200-18-E4XB snap-in I/O module provided fast outputs using its PTO features for servo drive control, PT100 inputs for measuring the temperature of the heaters for welding the packaging foil, and pulse width modulation (PWM) outputs and PID control for precise temperature control of the heaters. It also had the right number of inputs and outputs for controlling the pneumatic valves, sensors and actuators.

The powerful and simple VisiLogic software package, lots of free examples, and good technical support made this product really easy to use. To use a single snap-in module with so many different I/O was very much appreciated. It ended up being a very small, very compact and powerful solution for the machine builder. The V560's IP66-rated flat fascia was a very nice advantage for the food and beverage industry."
