NSK is launching a range of APTSURF high-precision, high-performance cylindrical roller bearings that are designed for applications such as the main spindle of machine tools. End users will benefit from enhanced spindle reliability and an improved surface finish, particularly in lathes and turning centres, principally through a 55 per cent reduction in rotational vibration levels. A further advantage is 60 per cent extended life, which is achieved through optimisation of the bearing's internal design and innovative manufacturing technology. Rotational vibration is reduced 55 per cent when using NSK 's APTSURF cylindrical roller bearings.
In recent years, the need for better machining quality and greater reliability has expanded in line with expectations from an increasingly competitive component manufacturing marketplace. With APTSURF, NSK set about addressing this issue in a number of ways; firstly through the precision enhancement of each bearing part. Here, the RMS (root mean square) value of vibration at 2000rpm is decreased by 55 per cent in comparison with conventional bearings. In turn, the surface finish quality of parts produced by the lathe will also be improved.
Further enhanced features that will be of interest to machine tool builders include an increase of 15 per cent in the dynamic capacity, and 60 per cent longer operating life, again in comparison with conventional bearings.
The bearings are available in outside diameters of up to 360mm and with an accuracy rating of P4 or higher. In total, NSK is anticipating global sales from the series of approximately 3 billion (EUR23.6 million) in 2016.
