August Steinmeyer, which manufactures ball screw and nut assemblies, has opened a new state-of-the-art facility in Albstadt, Germany.
The new part of the plant adds over 43,000 square feet to the Steinmeyer site; the shop floor area has been increased by more than 35,000 square feet. The new building also houses a goods in and logistics area of 8000 square feet.
A decision to extend the existing factory was taken after five years of double-digit percentage growth and increasing workflow problems. Alexander Beck, international sales manager and co-owner of August Steinmeyer, comments: "Demand for our products has continuously increased and we have simply outgrown the existing manufacturing facility. With the new plant online we are now able to make the quality products our customers expect and are working towards reducing lead times once all of the new production capacity becomes available."
Fifty new jobs have been created at the site, increasing the overall number of Steinmeyer employees in Germany to 400. Beck states: "We make precision products and need a highly skilled and motivated workforce. In addition to employing more people, we have also introduced flexible working practises which allow us to keep production running on weekends and public holidays if necessary."
