Avalue introduces HPC-BYT for IoT and Industry 4.0 applications

Avalue Technology Inc is bringing the HPC-BYT embedded system to market to catch the trend of IoT development. This new machine features the Intel Bay Trail platform to meet the requirements of IoT-relevant applications, including exceptional video and graphics performance, high-speed data processing and low power and low-profile design. In addition, for industrial or demanding applications, HPC-BYT has ruggedised features for continuous and smooth operation.

HPC-BYT is powered by the Intel Atom E3845 4-Core 1.91GHz processor; furthermore, thanks to the Type 6 COMe architecture, users are able to change the system core to meet their demands. This machine supports a total of 6 COM ports (4 isolated) and 3 USB for external connection; 2 mini PCIe and 1 HPC 80-pin IET interface for dedicate device expansion; and CF card slot and 2.5 HDD for system storage. This fanless operation system has rugged features, such as whole metal chassis, wide temperature range (-40degC-70degC (-40degF-158degF)), wide voltage input (DC +12V to +48V), and is also shock and vibration proof.

The Bay Trail Series combines Silvermount architecture CPU with a GPU (which is similar to the HD 4000 graphics engine); in addition, this series has dedicated I/O blocks and media encoding and decoding functions to make Bay Trail a system-on-chip (SoC) processor. For power management, the Bay Trail platform adopts 22nm manufacturing process and several technologies to save energy. Turbo Boost technology optimises the balance between system performance and power consumption, making the required energy lower than before when the system is in an idle state. In addition DPST 6.0 (Display Power Saving Technology) is able to save power by applying a clever combination of image processing and backlight adjustment.

In the new era of the Internet of Things (IoT), it is very important to bring the various devices and people into one network so that information sharing and mutual communication is possible. The problem is how to bridge all these devices and make the data flow through the network and reach a central server for processing. The answer is an IoT gateway system. Nowadays, the concept of IoT is widely accepted in many fields including manufacturing, production, energy grids, transportation, intelligent buildings, construction monitoring and so on.
