Avalue Technology brings new embedded SBCs ECM-APL & EBM-APL

Avalue Technology Inc. is bringing the new embedded single board computers, ECM-APL (3.5") and EBM-APL (5.25"), equipped with the Intel Apollo lake processor, to the market. These new SBCs are designed for dealing with the rising demands on low-cost, light weight and system performance and expect to offer users a new option for entry applications.

As a member of the Intel Atom family, Apollo Lake reserves certain characteristics and advantages from its predecessor, Braswell, ex: a small die SoC designed to slot in below the core architecture chips. This series is aimed at entry-level application market and enabling Intel-based options to better compete with non-traditional devices based around ARM SoCs. Different from the past Atom series processors, Apollo Lake adopts the new Goldmount architecture and 14 nm manufacturing process. Furthermore, this processor integrates a newer GPU design based on Intel's Gen9 GPU (same as Skylake series) to offer modern GPU features and better multimedia performance.

Though ECM-APL and EBM-APL adopt the Apollo Lake processor as the system core for entry-level applications, they still offer fair system performance. Generally speaking, the processor performance is 30 per cent higher than the Braswell platform. In addition, ECM-APL and EBM-APL support DDR3L (up to 8GB) and eMMC 5.0, SDXC, SATA 6.0 Gbps and x4 PCIe. 45 per cent multimedia performance is improved: benefitting from the Gen9 GPU, this product series supports 4K resolution and several graphic interface including LVDS, HDMI and DP. Simultaneously, the Apollo Lake processer integrates HEVC and VP9 hardware deciding function, so power consumption is effectively reduced when running network video stream. The processor TDP is only 6W, which is very helpful for energy-saving and to prevent possible problems caused by an overheated system.

With the new generation processor architecture, the latest GPU, lower energy consumption, plus, the most common form factors: 3.5" and 5.25" biscuit, Avalue ECM-APL and EBM-APL are a balance between cost and system efficiency. These products meet the requirements of various applications. For example, their low power consumption and small size are suitable for portable device, AIO equipment, thin client or compact system applications; exceptional multimedia performance makes ECM-APL and EBM-APL useful for POS, digital signage and multi-media player in retail. Overall, these new embedded SBCs are expected to be new options for entry-level applications and markets.
