BARA Machine Safety Conference 2010

BARA's 2010 Machine Safety Conference takes place at Bletchley Park, Milton Keynes, on 9 November 2010. This event will focus on the practical implementation of functional safety, with an overview of standards and legislation, including developments relating to the new Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Tutorial sessions cover practical risk assessment and safety system design. Delegates will also benefit from demonstrations with industry experts, and the popular question-and-answer session provides the opportunity for delegates to ask pertinent questions of the expert panel. Speakers will include representatives of the Health and Safety Executive (HSE), Rockwell Automation, Pilz Automation Technology, Sick (UK), Siemens, Schneider Electric, Laidler Associates/TUV Product Service and Fortress Interlocks.

Alongside the BARA conference, the safety exhibition enables delegates to discuss many of the latest machinery safety products with leading vendors.

Who should attend?

  • Specifiers and designers of machinery
  • Specifiers and designers of safety-related electrical control systems (SRECS)
  • Managers and engineers responsible for machinery safety within their work environment

Dr Richard Piggin, Conference Director and Chairman of BARA's Safety SIG (Special Interest Group), comments: "These conferences continue to be extremely popular, as witnessed by past attendance. Delegates have clearly articulated the need for a forum where functional safety standards and legislation can be discussed, particularly with the changing standards environment. Machine designers and builders, system integrators and users of machinery have expressed their better understanding and improved knowledge these events impart. As the area continues to develop, with the transition to new standards, the BARA Machine Safety Conference will continue to educate the market and provide a forum for debate."

After the conference, delegates can take a guided tour of Bletchley Park, the site of Britain's codebreaking activities during WWII and the birthplace of modern computer. They will be able to see a fully working, rebuilt version of the Turing Bombe - the machine that was used to crack the Enigma codes.
