Market predicted to soar massively, driven by industry demand, points out Zygology

The global battery-power tool market was valued at $20,772.3 million in 2020 and is projected to reach $41,196.3 million by 2030, growing at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 6.9% from 2021 to 2030.

The project growth, reported by Allied Market Research, sees the rapid shift in demand resulting from increased industry application: “Growth in adoption of battery-power tools in automotive, construction and manufacturing sector has led to surge in the battery power tools market globally.”

As a result of massive growth projections in the solar, wind and ground transportation industries, Stanley is forecasting an even higher growth rate in the adoption of battery-driven tools: a CAGR of over 9% is expected from 2019-2025 in the cordless tool market.

Exceptional growth

Demand for non-pneumatic tools is said to be growing at an unprecedented rate. With battery-tool manufacturers such as Stanley and Qonnect leading the way, “the new generation of cordless, motor-driven hand tools is comparable in performance levels to the pneumatic tools traditionally used in manufacturing – especially in engineered fastening applications”, according to Zygology. With the increased use of battery-powered tools and movement away from traditional pneumatic tools in manufacturing, the company has been exploring their benefits and how they're changing the manufacturing industry.

Here is what Zygology has to say about the cordless tool market:

  1. Reduced Costs for Manufacturers

Pneumatic tools have been the industry standard in manufacturing due to their longevity, plus they deliver consistent power and require little maintenance. But the inefficient pneumatic systems behind them are costly to maintain, monitor, and operate:

  • Compressed air accounts for up to 10% of the total electricity use in many production facilities.
  • On average, 30% of the compressed air leaks out before getting to end-users.
  • Operators are losing money every minute that a compressor is running.

As reported by Stanley, by some estimates, shifting from compressed air tools to motor-driven tools can result in energy savings of up to 95%.

  1. Reduced Risk of Workplace Injury

Cordless electric tools also lower the risk of workplace accidents from tripping hazards and being injured by damaged air lines, to the reduced physical impact of vibration from pneumatic tools.

“Additionally, a recent study by researcher Michael H. Weier positively correlated hand-arm vibration through the use of pneumatic tools with permanent hearing loss independent of noise exposure,” points out Zygology. “The health benefits are positive for end users and help companies avoid the costly loss of staff.”

  1. Improved User Experiences and Increased Quality Control

“Professional manufacturing teams use their hand tools for hours on end, repeating the same motions over and over. Battery-operated hand tools offer lighter, quieter operation and improved ergonomics over pneumatic tools.”

While the improvements to operator safety are a step forward in the manufacturing industry, this new generation of cordless tools offers another benefit: enhanced quality control features via programmable functions and digital performance tracking.

  1. Tool Versatility and a Focus on a Greener Future

Shifting from air-driven tools to cordless, battery-powered models is one of the ways that industry is meeting new efficiency standards.

“Cordless tools offer unmatched versatility and mobility,” adds Zygology. “They're untethered to a centralised air system, making them easy to transport and utilise at remote sites of particular concern, such as large solar installations and wind turbine construction and maintenance.”

Over the next five years, solar energy has a global CAGR of 20% and the CAGR of wind energy is just over 10%. “When pneumatic tools are used in site-specific installations, like wind or solar energy projects, they require additional labour and equipment to move heavy generators, fuel and hoses around the site. Battery-operated hand tools allow technicians the ability to move quickly and easily from one part of the job to the next—only needing additional batteries on hand.”
