Mouser Electronics is now stocking the 2015-Series Gas Discharge Tube Surge Arrestors from Bourns. These new surge arrestors offer a conventional two-electrode gas discharge tube surge arrestor, in an innovative flat package design. These coin-shaped surge arrestors are 8mm in diameter and only 1.60mm in height.
The new Bourns 2015-Series Gas Discharge Tube Surge Arrestors are low-profile surge arrestors used to protect compact, space limited systems that have very limited component height. Surge arrestors are placed in a circuit to protect electronics from spikes in current that can damage sensitive electronics equipment. When inactive, Bourns gas discharge tube (GDT) surge arrestors have a very high resistance that is greater than 1GΩ, making it virtually invisible to a circuit. However, when a current spike greater than the GDT's sparkover value is applied across its two terminals, the gas inside a Bourns GDT quickly ionizes, called "arc mod", transitioning the GDT from very high resistance to a virtual short circuit. The surge current can then be safely diverted away from sensitive electronics.
Bourns 2015-Series GDTs are available with sparkover values of 90V, 150V, 230V, and 350V and can transition to arc mode in as fast as 20usec. These surge arrestors maintain a constant capacitance of as little as 1.9pF over voltage. The Bourns 2015-Series GDT surge arrestors target space-limited, high-performance applications and complies with ITU-K.12 Class II safety standards. These GDTs are engineered to protect sensitive electronic equipment from surges under harsh environments including temperatures ranging from -55 to +85degC.
Target applications for Bourns 2015-Series GDT surge arrestors include industrial communications, sensitive space limited systems, and end-use telecommunications equipment. To learn more, visit www.mouser.com/new/bourns/bourns-2015-gdt-arrestors.
