igus UK readycable assembly line cuts lead time to 24 hours

igus has commissioned an assembly line at its UK facility in Northampton for rapid manufacturing of readycable. Representing another significant investment for company, this time worth hundreds of thousands of pounds, the new assembly line uses fully-automated machines and lean manufacturing methods to streamline the manufacturing process and deliver fully-harnessed drive cables that can be shipped within 24 hours of order placement. In contrast, other suppliers of cables for applications such as servo drives quote lead times of weeks - one customer recently told igus they had been quoted 16 weeks.

Siemens launches Additive Manufacturing Network

Siemens is launching the Siemens Additive Manufacturing (AM) Network, following pilots and successful implementations with customers and partners, including Decathlon, Siemens Gas & Power, Siemens Mobility, HP and Materialise. The Siemens AM Network provides an advanced cloud-based system to foster collaboration and process orchestration between engineers, procurement and suppliers of 3D printed parts. Providing an end-to-end digital process that connects the demand for parts with a supplier network helps enable globally distributed manufacturing. The Siemens Additive Manufacturing Network will be featured at Formnext 2019 in Frankfurt, Germany.

See real-time monitoring for additive manufacturing at Formnext

Siemens acquires MultiMechanics for modelling in Simcenter

Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire MultiMechanics, Inc., developer of MultiMech finite element software that helps companies predict failures in advanced materials at an unprecedented level of speed and accuracy. The company plans to integrate MultiMechanics into Siemens Digital Industries Software, which will add the ability for customers to create a digital twin of materials by closely integrating materials engineering with part design, performance engineering, and manufacturing through the TRUE Multiscale technology for a broad range of material-driven applications.

An intensive qualification process was concluded with a series of end user visits by teams from both NSK and Rubix Haarlem.

Siemens acquires Atlas 3D to expand AM portfolio

Siemens has signed an agreement to acquire Atlas 3D, Inc., a Plymouth, Indiana-based developer of software that works with direct metal laser sintering (DMLS) printers to automatically provide design engineers with the optimal print orientation and requisite support structures for additive parts in near real-time. Atlas 3D will join Siemens Digital Industries Software, where its solutions will expand additive manufacturing capabilities in the Xcelerator portfolio of software.

Thousands more Festo products for factory automation at RS

RS Components has expanded its range of products from factory automation manufacturer Festo to include over 17,000 individual items (expanded range currently only available to customers in Benelux, France, Germany, Italy and the UK). The new introductions span all of Festo's most popular pneumatic and electrical device families, including cylinders, actuators, valves and pneumatic air preparation products.
