Vibration and temperature sensor gains hazardous area approval

SKF has gained hazardous area approval for its QuickCollect sensor, which collects vibration and temperature data. The new approval, to both European and International standards, allows the sensor to be used in places that would previously have required a "˜hot work' permit. The certification opens up applications in a range of sectors, including the petrochemicals, mining and marine industries. It also brings digitalisation of data into hazardous areas, which up to now is a relative rarity.

New ratio pyrometer measures lower and responds faster

Micro-Epsilon is extending its range of high performance, non-contact temperature sensors to include a new compact infrared ratio temperature sensor (two-colour ratio pyrometer) that is suitable for use in high-temperature, high-speed metal-processing environments, including casting, forging and secondary metal processing applications such as induction heating.

New optical sensors measure torques as low as 10 mNm

The growing demand for high-speed miniature and micro machines has prompted Sensor Technology Ltd to develop a torque monitor that can accurately measure down to 10mNm (ten milliNewton-metres). This capability is combined with a 50kHz bandwidth so that even fleeting transient torques can be recorded with accuracy.
