ST&L Ltd has undertaken a machinery safety audit project for a manufacturer of soft drinks, with 800 individual machines and machine assemblies audited at 17 production facilities in four European countries.

Atlas Copco's VSD technology consumes 25 per cent less power

At Brucha's 80,000-square-meter plant in Michelhausen in Lower Austria, four Atlas Copco GA oil-injected screw compressors with variable speed drive technology are using 25 per cent less power to supply the company's four production halls with the required volume of compressed air to meet their production needs.

Bauer geared motors for shipboard water treatment systems

As legislation becomes stricter on what can be discharged from ships into the ocean, shipboard water treatment technology has had to develop to meet these requirements. In the past a simple discharge pipe was all that was required; now most ships have a water treatment system for processing all the wastewater onboard. Mitsubishi Electric's iQ platform runs powerful industrial laser

A new laser-based research and development cell has been installed at the Manufacturing Technology Centre (MTC) in Ansty, West Midlands, to help keep British manufacturing at the forefront of assembly, fabrication and joining technologies. At the heart of the system is Europe's most powerful non-military laser, a 20kW rare earth Ytterbium fibre laser with a four-way beam switch, supplied by automation and laser specialists Tec Systems of Loughborough. They built the bespoke system in consultation with MTC's specialist research teams and incorporated a high-performance data acquisition and control system based on a Mitsubishi Electric iQ-controller.
