SKF to supply bearings for world's tallest observation wheel

SKF is to supply two giant bearings for the Las Vegas High Roller, the world's tallest observation wheel. The two SKF spherical roller bearings for the hub of the 550-foot-tall wheel are the largest ever produced at the SKF manufacturing facility in Gothenburg, Sweden. The contract, which was awarded by American Bridge Company, also includes the supply of related technologies within the SKF platform offer of seals, lubrication, and consulting services.

Rigid SBD actuator guides extraction system on diamond lathe

With the need to equip its Ultra-Precision diamond lathe with an effective swarf extraction system, the Ultra-Precision Structured Surfaces (UPS2) Department at Cranfield University sought the help of Glyndwr Innovations. The result was the development of a bespoke, stand alone system whose extraction head is guided by a HepcoMotion Sealed Belt Driven linear actuator (SBD), specified for its accuracy, rigidity and suitability for use in hostile environments.

FLIR thermal imaging assures problem-free cement production

Reduction in meantime before failure was the driving force behind Hanson Cement establishing its own, in-house reliability team and investing in FLIR thermal imaging. The company has operated a preventative maintenance programme for many years, supported by annual, outsourced thermal inspection of electrical systems in line with its risk management strategy. But although this was a robust programme it didn't allow for regular thermal inspection and trend analysis of vital pieces of equipment such as the cement kiln.

Heat-resistant deep-groove ball bearings slash costs

The producer used shielded deep-groove ball bearings in a continuous furnace and found that the bearings had an average service life of just 15 days.
