SKF technology specified for world's most powerful tidal turbine

SKF has developed a power train for the world's most powerful tidal turbine, capable of generating 2MW, being developed by Scotland-based Orbital Marine Power. SKF has been supplying bearings and components to Orbital since 2011 but has now taken a further holistic step in its technical capacity, by developing the full power train system.

Turntable bearings keep Kylie spinning around at Glastonbury

R.A. Rodriguez (U.K.) Limited has supplied large, high-quality turntable bearings for periaktoi used by Kylie Minogue as part of her headline performance on the Pyramid Stage at the recent world-famous Glastonbury Festival. Periaktoi are devices used for displaying different theatrical effects as they rotate. At Glastonbury, Kylie stood in the centre of one periaktos as the big "˜reveal' at the start of her set. As a result, there was no margin for error when it came to the turntable bearing, although selecting R.A. Rodriguez as the supplier ensured everything went to plan.

Fetch Data Collector: real-time access to critical asset data

MAC Solutions has supplied its Fetch Data Collector software to Nordikeau, a water and wastewater treatment company based in Quebec province, Canada. The software enables Nordikeau to log data from critical assets and equipment in real-time (every 10 seconds), providing data for alarms and early notifications of any equipment or process issues.

The Plastofused-Pro from Kamatec GmbH is an innovative plastic welding machine that helps repair damage to automobile and other expensive-to-replace components. As part of the machine's componentry, the German manufacture specifies Herga's Leptron series footswitches to control nitrogen delivery for its top-performing machine.

Young Falkland Islanders inspired by 3D printing thanks to igus

The Falkland Islands are an archipelago comprising two main islands and 778 smaller islands covering an area of 12,000 sq km (almost half the size of Wales) with a population of just over 3500. Here, a radio station covers local news and the territory's only newspaper is Penguin News. The islands are self-governing: Susannah Nightingale, Communications Regulator is appointed by the Governor of the Falkland Islands. There are two schools in Stanley, the capital, the Infant and Junior School and Camp Education (IJS&CE) teaches ages 4 to 11 and the Falkland Islands Community School caters for ages 11 to 16.

Belt-driven track system specified for packaging system

When South Korean automation manufacturer New Hanil Engineering was commissioned to develop a machine to fully automate the production of liquid detergent packaging, it was essential to build a space-saving, low maintenance system that would provide the high throughput required. The machine produces spout pouches, one of the fastest growing packaging formats that are a flexible, cost-effective alternative to plastic bottles. At the core of the machine, New Hanil required a precise and reliable carousel system to guide and transfer the spout packs around the system between the different processes.

TruSail is a UK-based performance sailing specialist and the name of a modular wireless sensing telemetry system that provides a unique scientific and measurable tool for racing sailboats. Used for expert training by elite sailors and coaches, typically competing at national, international and Olympic level, the system includes real-time measurement and advanced analysis of the most significant dynamic forces that influence sailboat performance.
