Celesco SP3 string pot sensor is low-cost, rugged and versatile
Variohm EuroSensor is now supplying the Celesco SP3 string pot sensor that features a rugged cable extension design with a plastic-hybrid precision potentiometer and winding drum in an economical and versatile package that can be user-configured for a choice of 4-20mA or 0-10V DC output by simply connecting the appropriate signal wires on installation.
With precision absolute linear position measurement in a choice of four ranges (120mm, 315mm, 635mm and 1270mm), the compact unit can be mounted within an envelope of just 25mm wide x 50mm deep x 90mm high and its durable water-resistant polycarbonate housing has a universal mounting bracket. The cable extension sensor requires no critical cable alignment, which suits difficult-to-measure applications where there is insufficient space to fit more traditional measurement devices or where the moving components may be submerged or obscured by other equipment.
The SP3 draw wire sensor has an acceleration rating of up to 15 'g' in retraction and a rated life of over 2.5million cycles for the 120mm travel unit (250,000 cycles for the 1270mm travel version). Overall accuracy is between 0.25 per cent to 1.0 per cent of full scale, depending upon stroke length, and repeatability is better than 0.05 per cent of full scale. Measuring resolution is described as "essentially infinite."
Supply voltage for the new sensor is 8-40V DC for current output and 12-32V DC for voltage output. Electrical connection is via a 1m multi-conductor cable.
