CETOP Position Paper on Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC
CETOP has published a Position Paper on the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC. Although it was first released in May 2010, this 12-page document has received little publicity despite its content being very useful for machine builders using fluid power (pneumatics and hydraulics). CETOP is the European umbrella organisation for national fluid power associations - such as the BFPA in the UK.
The Position Paper has been prepared as a guide to and overview of the application of the new Machinery Directive to parts or components for fluid power applications. Regarding the Machinery Directive, fluid power components might be covered as machinery, partly completed machinery or safety components. The Position Paper provides helpful guidance so readers can decide whether fluid power components fall into any of these three product types. In particular, there is helpful information regarding 'safety components' for machinery.
Furthermore, the CETOP Position Paper also lists fluid power components that are excluded from the scope of the Machinery Directive.
Additional information covers documentation, CE marking in relation to other European Directives, and the concepts of 'placing on the market' and 'making available for the first time'.
