Circular connectors help to cut wiring costs

ITT Electronic Components' VBN series of circular connectors are claimed to reduce wiring costs. Targeted primarily at rail and mass transit applications, the connectors use a rigid insert, held in place using a retention clip, which makes it easier and quicker to insert and remove contacts, thereby reducing wiring assembly time and cost.

Because the inserts can be removed manually without using special tools, contacts are easily polarised or orientated. Additionally, VBN series connectors employ a new membrane grommet design that facilitates the use of a wide range of cables without the need for sealing plugs.

Available in 4- to 74-way configuration, VBN circular connectors feature robust aluminium alloy shells plated in Ecogreen or Ecoblack. Contacts are copper alloy and the insulator retaining ring is heat-treated beryllium copper. Isolation inserts are made from thermoplastic, and the grommet and interfacial gaskets are fabricated in flame-retardant rubber.

The connectors are waterproof to IP67 and have high resistance to vibration. EMI/RFI protection can be included, and devices come with a wide range of cable clamp accessories.
