With continual changes in machinery safety standards and the state of the art, engineers are hard-pressed to be fully familiar with all aspects of the regulations, standards and risk management technologies relating to machinery safety. However, the four-day City & Guilds course from Pilz Automation Technology presents all of this material in the form of a single training package suitable for electrical and mechanical engineers and engineering managers.

In addition to classroom sessions there are also practical exercises and examinations. A unit accredited certificate is issued on successful completion of individual modules, and a City & Guilds Machinery Safety Certificate is issued on successful completion of all seven modules.

The full agenda for the course is available to view online, but some of the topics covered are:

  • Management of Health and Safety at Work Regulations
  • CE marking requirements for the Machinery, EMC and Low-Voltage Directives
  • Harmonised standards
  • Principles and aspects of machine guarding
  • Practical wiring exercises
  • Provisions and Use of Work Equipment Regulations 1998 (PUWER 98)
