Ever eager to make life easier for designers, Maxon Motor has come up with a n all-in-one unit that combines a motor, a sensor and a controller packaged in a neat, compact, aluminium casing. It is known as the Maxon compact drive MCD EPOS.
The controllers are taken from Maxon's EPOS (Easy POsitioning System) range, which has proved popular since its recent introduction, while the motors and encoders are tried-and-tested, off-the-shelf Maxon products whose performance and reliability are well established. Together they form a highly dynamic, space-saving, maintenance-free positioning drive with excellent functionality and great efficiency. The system delivers a maximum output of 60W.
One of the most attractive features of the boxed MCD EPOS is its quick start-up procedure. It arrives optimally tuned and ready for use, and the need for wiring is minimised thanks to its facility for direct connection to a CANopen fieldbus or an SPS controller.
A programmable version - the MCD EPOS P - is also available, equipped with a processor and memory for standalone operation. Both versions come complete with all the necessary software, free of charge.
Applications for these extremely flexible compact drives will be found in, for example, automation, robotics and laboratory equipment.
Keith Ellenden, CEO of Maxon Motor UK Ltd, comments: "Designers have responded very enthusiastically to EPOS and we are sure that they will welcome the new MCD compact packages - particularly when they see the price. The EPOS range is already competitively priced but, believe it or not, the compact MCD costs less than the sum of its individual parts."
