Compact Guitar servo drive delivers 5kW of power

Inmoco's new ultra-high-power density Guitar servo drive from Elmo Motion Control is a PCB-mounted device that delivers up to 5kW of continuous qualitative power, and 70A peak current. The newest addition to Elmo's SimplIQ core family of servo drives, the Guitar provides excellent servo performance, networking and intelligent capabilities with high-level programming capability. It is designed to suit every motion control application within its power range, especially where servo performance and compactness are critical issues.

Compact Guitar servo drive delivers 5kW of power

Measuring just 80mm (l) x 61mm(w) x 24.5mm(d), and weighing just 165g, the Guitar combines high performance, high power and CANopen networking with size and weight saving, and PCB mounting to reduce the installed envelope.

Although very compact, the Guitar is nevertheless high on functionality, offering the facility for operation in position, velocity and current modes, as a network drive in distributed motion systems using the CANopen interface, or as a standalone motion controller for single-axis servo control. In all these operating modes, integrated features such as vector control sinusoidal commutation, and advanced filtering and velocity gain deliver enhanced dynamic performance.

At the heart of the Guitar is Elmo's SimplIQ technology. Combining advanced motion control with real-time networking capabilities, and delivering a wealth of feedback and I/O options and programming capabilities, SimplIQ enables the Guitar to bring increased precision to a wide range of automated applications, including robotics, machine tools, packaging, semiconductor production, materials handling, sorting, printing, textiles and many more.

Simple integration

Integrating the Guitar into automated applications is accomplished quickly and easily using Elmo's third-generation Composer software. A universal programming language, Composer provides flexible and intuitive programming and smooth operation for single or multi-axis set-ups, manual and automatic tuning of current, velocity and position loops, a motion monitor and scope for testing, network monitoring and debugging tools, and also facilitates communication via serial RS-232 and CANopen.

Inmoco's Guitar operates with a single DC bus of 11-195V DC, offering the flexibility of three voltage ranges, with built-in smart control to supply "back-up' capabilities. The servo drive also offers a wide range of feedback options (encoders, resolvers, tachometers and potentiometers), and integrates an auxiliary feedback port for ECAM, Follower, Dual-Loop and Pulse-and-Direction applications. This flexibility is further enhanced by the provision of digital and analogue ports for user-designated inputs and outputs.
