Compact multi-axis servo system with high power density

The DIAS Drive 2000 Series from SIGMATEK is a compact package with up to three axes, a supply, power filter, brake resistor and DC-Link. It can be seen on the company's stand at the forthcoming Drives & Controls exhibition

Compact multi-axis servo system with high power density

The MDP 2000 supply and axis module can be used standalone, but can also integrated into a network with any number of MDD 2000 axis modules, says SIGMATEK.

The new DIAS Drive generation MDD 2000 is said to combine high performance and flexibility for the control of servo motors in a compact design. The modular multi-axis servo system is designed with one, two and three-axis modules in various sizes or power classes and provides many safety functions in the standard model.  The servo system can be operated as either single or three-phase with 230-480 VAC. Besides one to three axes, a supply, power filter, brake resistor and DC-Link circuit are also incorprated despite the small dimensions at only 75x240x219 mm in size 1.

In size 1, the servo system is stated to achieve a performance of 4 kW (3x 5 A rated or 3x 15 A peak current) and in size 2, up to 8 kW (3x 10 A rated or 3x 30 A peak current). The overload factor is up to 300%. A short controller cycle times of 62.5 µs give the DIAS Drives very good servo performance s ays the company. The combined supply and axis module MDP 2000, with up to three integrated axes, can be a stand-alone solution or installed in the network with any number of MDD 2000 axis modules of both sizes. SIGMATEK says that "thanks to clever connection mechanics, installation time is reduced". With its DCB “DC Connection Block” and BCB “Bus Connection Block”, all modules can be quickly connected using stacking technology. This eliminates complex individual wiring for current, DC-Link coupling and real-time Ethernet communication with VARAN bus.

In addition to the safe stop functions Safe Torque Off (STO) and Safe Stop 1 (SS1), the MDD 2000 series includes Safe Operating Stop (SOS), Safe Brake Control (SBC), as well as Safety Limited Speed (SLS) and enables applications up to SIL 3, PL e, Cat. 4. Digital motor feedback interface Hiperface DSL is a standard feature which saves wiring and time during the initial start-up.

In addition to the single cable solution, various encoder types are supported: Resolver, EnDat 2.1, Hiperface, Sin/Cos, TTL, BiSS-C or Tamagawa. An integrated autotuning function and predefined motion software components in the extensive library of the engineering platform LASAL shorten the time for creating applications.

The dimensions of the DIAS Drive size are 75x240x219 mm (WxHxD), and the DIAS Drive size 2 is 150x240x219 mm (WxHxD).

These, and much more, can be seen on the SIGMATEK stand (number J52) at the Drives & Controls exhibition on April 5th-7th,
