Steute is extending its portfolio of non-contact gate/door switches for machinery applications by introducing magnetic safety sensors with outstanding characteristics. The first advantage is the most obvious: with dimensions of 18 x 28.6 x 8.6mm, this sensor is extremely compact, and is a great deal smaller than any other unit in the RC series. In addition, the coded actuator has a small format.
However, Steute says the key innovation is to offer the crucial characteristic of a large switching distance - 6mm switching on, 15mm switching off - which was previously not possible with magnetic sensors. This advance is based on equipping the HS Si 4 with a Hall sensor.
The HS Si 4 complements its small size and its large switching distance by the property of being resistant to vibrations, making it extremely well suited to applications on machine guards. A further characteristic is the wide operating temperature range: the HS Si 4 can be used in temperatures of -20 up to +70degC without problems.
This new safety sensor is available with two contact configurations (1 NC and 1 NO contact). It comes equipped with a pre-wired cable for semiconductor outputs - a vital precondition for this unit's high protection class (IP 67). The steute SRM 21 RT2 safety module provides signal evaluation: this module is suitable for applications up to control category 4 (EN 954-1). The module has two enabling paths, a feedback control circuit and a semiconductor output as signalling contact.
