Computer-on-module is first to use AMD 690 chipset

The ETXexpress-690 computer-on-module supports the latest embedded processors from AMD that perform with up to 16-Lane Hyper Transport support at excellent TDP values of only 9W to 35W. The scalable ETXexpress-690 offers processing performance ranging from the single-core 1.0GHz AMD 2100+ Sempron processor up to the dual-core AMD Turion 64 X 2 TL-52 with 1.6GHz. Performance is boosted further by up to 4GB dual-channel 667MHz DDR2 SO-DIMM memory.

This computer-on-module comes with interfaces that conform to the PICMG COM.0 specification Type 2 pin-out, making it suitable for market sectors that require long-life availability such as kiosk, medical, multimedia and gaming industries. Kontron claims that these will benefit not only from the increased computing power and better performance-per-watt offered by the Kontron ETXexpress-690, but also from increased graphics performance with the integrated Radeon X1250 graphics core as well as PCI Express x 8. The ETXexpress-690 also supports TMDS for DVI or HDMI graphics.

Other I/O options include 4 x 1, 2 x 2 and 1 x 4 PCI Express lanes, 10/100/1000 Mbit Ethernet, eight USB 2.0 ports and dual-video streaming capabilities. The ETXexpress-690 also offers continued support for applications requiring PCI and IDE interfaces. Hard drive access is SATA-quick thanks to 4 x Serial ATA ports, and the Raid 0, 1, 10 subsystems provide enhanced data safety.
