Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance Summit 2013

The Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance Summit, hosted by National Instruments and featuring industry experts in condition monitoring, will be held at NI UK & Ireland headquarters in Newbury, on 10th April 2013.

Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance Summit 2013

Embedded condition monitoring of machinery and mechanical systems is essential in order to minimise unscheduled outages, optimise machine efficiency, reduce maintenance or repair costs and support increased revenue growth by gaining a competitive advantage. The summit will feature in-depth technical presentations, alongside hands-on training and industry speakers from Cranfeld University Integrated Vehicle Health Management Centre, PCB Piezotronics and Romax Technnology. Topics will include:

Keynote - Bespoke Condition Monitoring & Predictive Maintenance Systems presented by Tristan Jones, Regional Product Manager for Embedded Design & Industrial Systems, NI UK & Ireland

In the keynote address, Jones will give a global perspective of condition monitoring challenges across many industries, concentrating on the application of off-the-shelf technologies in bespoke condition monitoring systems.

Prognostics: A Pathway Towards Next Generation Maintenance Management presented by Fatih Camci, Senior Research Fellow, IVHM Centre at Cranfield University

High-value assets, such as aircraft, power plants and ships, require maximum availability, incurring significant failure consequences and huge maintenance costs. Dr Camci will give an introduction to prognostics and its benefits, showcase example case studies and present the challenges to address the implementation of real systems.

Sensors for Condition Monitoring presented by Tim Stubbs, PCB Piezotronics

In this session, Stubbs will draw on his 20 years of experience in noise and vibration-based test and measurement engineering. By using examples such as motors, bearings, turbines, fans, pumps and compressors, Stubbs will discuss how technology can help to further reduce costs, improve efficiency and optimise time management for condition monitoring.

Fleet Health Assessment for Offshore Wind Turbine Drivetrain presented by Aaron Lockton, Test & Instrumentation Engineer, Romax Technology

The ultimate target for a wind farm operator is to maximise the availability and minimise the operation and maintenance costs. In order to achieve this target, it is important to understand the health status of the fleet. In his presentation, Lockton will highlight case studies on the health assessment of offshore wind turbine drivetrains.

Smart Maintenance and Diagnostics for Electrical Power Generation presented by Kamalina Srikant, Market Development Manager, Asset Monitoring, NI

Learn about Duke Energy's large-scale monitoring and automation initiative to increase asset availability, reduce cost and address workforce challenges. In the past, 80 per cent of key maintenance and diagnostics (M&D) personnel time and efforts were spent on data collection instead of analytics. Attendees of this session will learn about Duke Energy's new M&D infrastructure, featuring NI CompactRIO.

In addition to technical presentations, delegates can take advantage of hands-on training sessions to learn how to rapidly design and build powerful measurement applications, using NI LabVIEW, to perform complex PC-based vibration analysis, as well as discovering how to design, prototype and deploy embedded systems, to continuously acquire vibration data from a plant, control the speed of the plant and implement alarm conditions.
