Custom-programmable 9-axis motion sensor from Bosch Sensortec
Mouser Electronics is now stocking the BMF055 9-axis motion sensor from Bosch Sensortec. Featured as one of EDN's Hot 100 Products of 2015, this System-in-Package (SiP) MEMS sensor is part of Bosch Sensortec's Application-Specific Sensor Node (ASSN) family. The device combines an accelerometer, a gyroscope, and a magnetometer with an ARM Cortex-M0+ processor from Atmel's SAMD20 microcontroller family. Integrating three sensors with a powerful ARM microcontroller, the BMF055 is suitable for designers looking to develop advanced application-specific sensor fusion algorithms, add sophisticated motion sensing capabilities, and replace multiple discrete components in their Internet of Things (IoT) designs.
The Bosch Sensortec BMF055 9-axis motion sensor contains an advanced triaxial 16-bit gyroscope; a versatile triaxial 14-bit accelerometer; and a full-performance geomagnetic sensor. The gyroscope is range switchable from +/-125 degrees per second to +/-2000 degrees per second. The accelerometer offers acceleration ranges from +/-2g, +/-4g, +/-8g, and +/-16g, and the magnetometer has a typical field range of +/-1300¼T (x-, y-axis) with a field resolution of approximately 0.3¼T. The 32-bit ARM Cortex M0+ general-purpose microcontroller features 256kB of flash and 32kB of SRAM and interfaces with the three sensors through a serial peripheral interface (SPI). The all-in-one offering eases the integration process for developers and ensures a much faster time to market.
The software component of the BMF055 uses Atmel Studio, which provides a basic setup so engineers can quickly get started with customisable programming and software development. An optional plug-in package enables easy integration of application-specific software from a precompiled BSX Lite fusion library. Combined, the hardware and software give developers the flexibility to either integrate additional software or develop application-specific sensor fusion algorithms for tablets and ultra-books, gaming, fitness, navigation, context awareness, robotics, augmented reality or other industrial or IoT-based sensor applications.
Bosch Sensortec's BMF055 9-axis motion sensor is available now through Mouser Electronics in a compact, 28-pin LGA package that measures just 5.2 × 3.8 × 1.1mm.
