Design tool for selecting motors and gearboxes
Apex Dynamics UK Ltd is the UK & Ireland's only supplier of Apex gearboxes, being part of the much larger Apex Dynamics Inc. The company's new website includes a very useful design tool to help machine builders select the right gearbox and motor for their application.
If a motor has already been specified, the tool provides a step-by-step process that steers the user towards selecting the correct gearbox to suit the application's requirements. First, the motor is selected from a built-in database (there are hundreds to choose from, from around 200 different suppliers), then various application parameters are entered so the tool can generate a list of candidate gearboxes. Once a suitable gearbox has been identified, PDF and CAD drawings (in DXF, IGS and STP formats) can be downloaded, and the gearbox part number (and adapter part number, if one of these is also necessary) can be copied and pasted into a parts list. Finally, the user can input their contact details and request a quote from Apex Dynamics UK.
For applications in which a motor has not yet been specified, an enhanced version of the selection tool enables the user to start by selecting from six different types of application (direct drive, belt drive, gear drive, ball screw drive, rack and pinion, and lift). Information about the application (such as speed/acceleration profile and loads) can be input, after which a list of candidate motors is presented. Once a motor has been chosen form this list, the user is taken through the same step-by-step process for identifying a suitable gearbox.
