Easy way to add a driven rack to an aluminium profile system

Machine Building Systems is now supplying the Item rack drive for linear guides. This set of components enables 80mm segments (or part-segments) of 8mm pitch rack to be inserted into a Profile 8 groove. According to the literature 'any motor' can be used to drive the rack by means of the universal Rack 8 Coupling Module.

Designers can configure the rack to be the moving element or, if a drag chain is employed, the carriage can move. Maximum drive force is 1000N, torque is 23Nm and linear speed is 3m/s.

Rack elements are secured within the Profile 8 groove by means of stainless steel spring clips either side of each pair of segments; rack end sections are screwed into position at each end to prevent the rack from moving within the groove.

The Rack 8 Coupling Module features double ball bearings and an elastomeric spider-type coupling for connecting the motor to the module. Both the coupling and the housing are machined by the customer to suit the motor.

If required, Machine Building Systems can supply a complete rack drive system incorporating the rack drive and a Linear Slide 8 D14.
