Eaton introduces next generation WALFORM machine

Eaton's hydraulics business is introducing the 4th generation of its compact and proven WALFORM machine, the Eaton Walterscheid M-WF385Xplus (WAL626385). Meeting the requirements of the most demanding applications, the cold-forming machine M-WF385Xplus is easy and intuitive to operate and reduces cycle times significantly. The machine is suited for use in marine, oil and gas, agriculture, alternative energy, manufacturing, mobile material handling and transportation industries.

Michael Weidenbrck, Walterscheid product manager, Eaton, says: "Improper assembly constitutes the greatest risk of failure with any tube interface. The WALFORMplus technology creates optimal installation conditions with maximum system stability and safety, reducing the risk of failure."

In tough operating environments, customers require reliable metric tube fitting to tube retention ratio. Eaton's WALFORM system delivers the benefits of both an elastomeric and metal-to-metal seal and the required ration even under high dynamic loads. In addition, the assembly process is simple and practical with the machine reducing the travel of the final assembly tightening to a well-defined fix point - a substantial safety factor. The required torque is 25 per cent less compared with manual assembly of a cutting ring, which minimises risk of assembly related failures.

The WALFORM tube connection system comprises four elements: mechanically reshaped tube end, DIN body with a 24 degree cone seat, DIN nut, and captive seal. The system adheres to the principle of using standard parts; both the nut and body are based on the global DIN EN ISO 8434-1 specification, offering inventory and logistical advantages. As with all WALFORM machines, the M-WF385Xplus is compact and well-designed, fitting onto a standard-size pallet for easy transportation and field service.

In addition, the M-WF385Xplus features an easy-to-use control panel and has a light sensor integrated into the head. This can be operated manually or in automatic mode and significantly decreases cycle times. Accompanying elements also include a switch that runs the machine into the tool changing position, energy-efficient, demand-based, temperature-dependent air control, integrated noise optimisation and a meter in the control panel that can be reset. In addition, a foot switch (WAL609949) is also available upon request for simple handling of long piping.

A specially-designed, robust trolley (MW1) is also available, which allows smooth and flexible handling of the WALFORM machine. An added advantage of using this trolley is that it enables the machine to handle bent piping, as it can be inserted under the machine. Tools are cleanly stored in sets and in special tool slots. The toolbox cupboard can be placed in various positions and, if more storage space is required, additional toolbox cupboards are available.
