EC Conference on Market Surveillance and Machinery
The Enterprise and Industry Directorate General of the European Commission (EC) is organising a Conference on Market Surveillance and Machinery. This event will focus on market surveillance (enforcement) in the machinery sector and 200 to 300 attendees are expected from industry, the European institutions, Member State market surveillance authorities and customs authorities, and others. The conference takes place on 24 November 2011 in the Albert Borschette Conference Centre in Brussels.
Speakers will be from the Commission, European Parliament, industry and the market surveillance authorities. The conference will cover market surveillance for industrial products, focusing on machinery, and topics such as the New Legislative Framework and the Sectoral Directives. In particular, the conference will consider capital goods falling under the Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC.
This event is being organised in line with the commitments taken by the Commission in the October 2010 Communication on An Integrated Industrial Policy for the Globalisation Era to ensure the timely implementation of the Single Market Act, draw up a multi-annual EU action plan to develop EU market surveillance, and develop guidelines for customs control in the area of product safety. It will look into the important role of market surveillance for growth and jobs and sustainability, as well as its contribution to innovation.
Best Practice examples from the EU and beyond will be presented and the event will conclude with the launch of a common industry platform for Market Surveillance that will serve as an important tool for the EU Market Surveillance Authorities in carrying out their role.
