Energy chain innovations deliver benefits for machine builders

Igus has developed numerous highly innovative energy chains for safely and reliably moving cables and other media on machinery. The latest developments offer significant benefits for machine builders and system integrators who need to satisfy their customers' increasingly demanding requirements.

Energy chain innovations deliver benefits for machine builders

One of the innovative new products is the energy-efficient Rol E-Chain E2/000 (pictured right), which is particularly suitable for long travels and high speeds, or where energy consumption is a critical factor. Another product is the TwisterBand that can now accommodate up to ten turns within a very compact spatial envelope. Where the need is for clean, low-noise operation, the E-Chain E6.1 is available in a choice of sizes to suit different applications - including those in clean rooms - and the smooth, low-vibration motion is an advantage when the energy chain is used in conjunction with linear motors.

For machinery where dirt and elevated temperatures (up to 850degC) may be encountered, the E-Tube RX provides complete protection for the cables, yet the energy chain can be opened to give clear and easy access. The E-Chain extender crossbar E2/000 is a simple yet effective product that enables, for example, large vacuum hoses to be contained within a relatively compact energy chain.

Five- or six-axis robots can benefit from the E-Chain triflex r multi-axis tubular design that is available in a range of sizes to suit different applications. Despite the cables being fully enclosed, Igus has devised a means by which cables can be accessed with ease for installation or replacement. Finally, the E-Chain E4.1 light has been developed for highly dynamic motion or where weight or cost are critical.
